John Richardson Named President of Energen Resources For Release: January 23, 2008 Birmingham, Alabama — The Board of Directors of Energen Corporation (NYSE: EGN) today elected John S. Richardson, 50, as the new President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Energen Resources Corporation, the company’s oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary. Richardson has served as Executive Vice President and COO of Energen Resources for the past two years and succeeds James T. McManus, II, who is now Energen’s chairman and chief executive officer. “ John has been a key player in Energen Resources’ growth from a small, niche player in coalbed methane development in Alabama to one of the top 20 independent oil and gas producers in the United States,” said McManus. “The first phase of our targeted growth strategy focused on acquisitions and associated development. As the head of our acquisitions program, John has been instrumental to our success. His broad-based oil and gas background and his 22-year knowledge of Energen Resources will serve him well as he oversees the day-to-day operations of our growing oil and gas exploration and production business.” Richardson joined Energen Resources in 1985 and served in various engineering capacities before being named Vice President of Acquisitions & Engineering in 1997. Prior to joining Energen Resources, he worked with Shell Oil, AmSouth Bank and Jim Walter Resources. His professional affiliations include Regional Director of the Independent Petroleum Association of America; he also is a member of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council/Eastern Gulf Region, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Coalbed Methane Association of Alabama and the Capstone Engineering Society. Richardson has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mineral/Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alabama. He and his wife, Suzanne, live in Hoover and have two children.
