Gas Transmission Pipelines

Steel gas pipelines transfer the gas from a compressor station to a sales line for a cross-country transportation pipeline company.  These lines are usually located within or close to a compressor station but in some cases they travel cross-country to a sales line.  Transmission lines are installed underground at about 36 inches to 40 inches deep.  The depth of buried lines will vary over the years due to erosion and settling. Any planned activity in the area of ERC gas lines should include the location and marking of the lines by company personnel.  The normal operating pressure for these pipelines is 500 psig.  Pipeline markers are installed on right-of-ways to identify buried gas pipelines; these markers should be visible at almost any location on the right-of-ways.  Oilfield equipment can be hazardous; do not trespass on pipeline right-of-ways.
