Environment - Water

Drilling and completing wells in the Delaware and Midland basins require millions of gallons of fresh water, a valuable natural resource, especially in drought-prone but oil-rich places such as the Permian Basin in west Texas.

Energen has implemented several initiatives to better manage fresh water usage:

.
  • Energen is successfully using brackish-water supply wells in the Midland Basin as a source of make-up water to supplement fresh water.
  • Where practical, Energen recycles produced and flowback water to meet some of its well stimulation needs.
  • Finally, in addition to our water supply management activities, Energen has implemented several infrastructure projects to allow us to more efficiently move water in our more concentrated areas of operation. These efforts have already reduced our use of trucking, resulting in lower operating costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
