Environment

It is Energen’s policy to comply with all applicable laws and regulations and cooperate with local, state, and federal agencies in their inspection and enforcement activities. At Energen, we work hard to mitigate the potential for any adverse impacts from our operations.

Energen operates exclusively in the Permian Basin in west Texas and southern New Mexico. The prolific Permian Basin has a long history of oil and gas exploration and production, and Energen has been an environmentally responsible operator here for 20 years.

Approximately 60 percent of our employees work in the Permian Basin. They also live, play, and raise their families in and around areas where we conduct our operations. Energen is committed to safeguarding air, land, and water resources and has a vested interest in protecting the environment and minimizing our overall environmental footprint.

Risks associated with energy taxes and regulations, general environmental regulations, climate change, and other related matters are integrated into internal strategic planning and risk management processes that span multiple disciplines across the organization.

On an operational level, a senior manager reporting to the senior vice president of operations, oversees environmental, health, and safety matters.

The Board exercises its risk oversight role through Board and Committee meetings. The Board has developed a matrix identifying key risks and specifying full Board or specific Committee oversight responsibility. Matters relating to employee safety and environmental regulation, for example, are reviewed with the full Board quarterly.
